Japan Airlines to increase flights within region, deploy A350 to London

As part of changes made to its FY2024 winter schedule, Japan Airlines (JAL) increase flights its flights within Asia and to Australia, and will upgrade select flights to Honolulu during the winter with aircraft featuring its First Class product.


In an announcement, JAL announced it will resume flights between Tokyo Narita and Shanghai Pudong with daily services. The airline will also operate a seasonal five-times weekly service between Nagoya and Taipei-Taoyuan.


From Tokyo, JAL will increase its flights from Narita to Jakarta (11 to 13 times weekly), Bengaluru (3 to 5 weekly), Melbourne (3 to 6 weekly). The airline will also increase flights to Shanghai Pudong from Osaka Kansai (3 to 7 weekly), and Nagoya (5 to 7 weekly).


Guam and Honolulu 


In response to the steady recovery of outbound tourism demand from Japan, JAL will increase flights to Guam, deploy Boeing 777 aircraft with its First Class product, and operate special flights for the Honolulu Marathon.


On the Narita-Guam route, JAL will increase its flights during the winter from five to seven times weekly.


Ahead of the Honolulu Marathon, JAL will operate two special flights between Narita and Honolulu on December 5 and 6.


Towards the end of the year, and the start of 2025, JAL will deploy its 777 with its First Class product on select flights on its Haneda-Honolulu route. From Haneda, the aircraft will be used on flights JL74 on December 26, 27, 31, and January 1 along with JL72 on December 30 and January 5. The return flights with the 777s will be JL73 departing December 26, 27, 31, January 1, 5, and JL71 on December 30.


A350 to London


JAL announced it will introduce the Airbus A350-1000 – the newest addition to its fleet – on the Haneda-London route (JL43/JL44) during the fall. The start state will be announced later.


Additionally,the Haneda-New York route will be operated with A350-1000 aircraft on two flights daily from August 14, and the Haneda-Dallas Fort Worth route will be operated daily from August 23.


Domestic Changes

From January 7, JAL will increase its flights from Osaka Itami to Miyazaki from five to six roundtrip flights per day during a limited period. 


To the Kagoshima-remote island routes, services will be increased during high-demand periods as in previous years. 


To enhance the airline's ability to respond to irregularities such as bad weather, JAL will decrease its flights between December 1 to February 28 to Sapporo (Okadama)-Kushiro, Hakodate, and Akita.
